  • The Royal Government of Cambodia is a strong advocate for effective mine action protocols and works diligently to address these issues in international forums. Cambodia’s experience in managing such issues is an important reference point for the international community.
  • The Royal Government ratified the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Treaty (also known as the Ottawa Convention) in 1999. This Treaty, which is binding under international law, brings the international community together to end the production, use, and stockpiling of anti-personnel mines globally. It also addresses victim assistance and mine clearance issues. In December 2009, the Government was granted a ten-year extension to clear all known mined areas.
  • In 2007, Cambodia signed the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and its Optional Protocol. The Convention fights discrimination in relation to a wide range of rights that are often not accorded to persons with disabilities, either deliberately or through neglect. Its Optional Protocol allows them to petition an international expert body.
  • The Royal Government of Cambodia is also a regular participant in discussions of the Convention on Certain Convention Weapons (CCW).
